Workshop in Japan - 2018 Edition

Following the previous successful workshops organised as part of the partnership signed between Autograf and the UEDA Gakuen Educational Japanese University, Autograf students in Video Game Art and Graphic & Digital Design will travel to Osaka on May 19, 2018 to meet Japanese students.

Travelling to Japan!

During this trip, students will get to work as part of a multicultural French-Japanese team and combine their know-hows. Together and for four days, French and Japanese students worked on designing a platform game in an environment inspired by Abe no Seimei, a famous Japanese historical figure. This year's workshop was supervised by Olivier Thiebault, head teacher of the Bachelor's Degree in Video Game Art.

Tuesday 22nd May

This morning, students in Video Game Art travelling to Japan started their first day of workshop with Japanese students. They started by defining the planning for the next 4 intensive days, then allocated the work to the group members before starting their creative research activities.

Wednesday 23rd May

It was the workshop's second day. Students' projects started to take shape. We were starting to see models, animations and Unity integration.

Thursday 24th May

3rd workshop day in Osaka for our students in Video Game Art. Projects are now taking shape before the final stretch leading to tomorrow's presentation of their platform game.

Friday 25th May

Last day of workshop in Japan for our students in Bachelor's Degree in Video Game Art. The three French-Japanese groups presented their video games and associated research. An impressive outcome considering the very short timeframe they had to conceive this project. Congratulations!

They then enjoyed the cocktail organised by our Japanese friends.

Saturday 26th May

After 4 intensive days, students got to relax during the visit of a temple in Osaka dedicated to Abe no Seimei, a famous Japanese historical figure and the topic of their workshop.

They also had the opportunity to reproduce a Sutra in a Buddhist Temple.

While we're waiting to get the pictures of the 2018 edition of the workshop, let's have a look at some of the 2017 logbook pages, in pictures or in video!
