Workshop International Bachelor’s Degree in French-Japanese Design - The animation of an Obari pose

The first workshop of the year for our students of International Bachelor’s Degree in French-Japanese Design has ended, let’s review their work together.

The students of 1st and 2nd year of International Bachelor’s Degree in French-Japanese Design attended the same workshop on animation with their teacher Tony Varela. The goal was to create an animation of a manga or Japanese animated character in 5 afternoons spread over a week. In this animation the character had to make a particular pose, the Obari poses, it is based on the fact that the character makes a big gesture with a weapon or a part of his body with a very dramatic use of perspective.

The students made their animations on Clip Studio Paint, a first time for the majority of them. Thanks to the advice of their teacher, they have all succeeded in creating an interesting animation, in color or black and white, with speed or rebound effects. They began by drawing their final pose, the Obari pose, then their first pose and then they tackled the decomposition of their entire animation and the clean-up. Each animation represents at least twenty frames to create the desired movement. Through this exercise, the students stimulated different skills, observation and management of space and movement.

On the last day of the workshop, the students presented their work to their classmates and teachers, each of whom was applauded for his creativity.

Let’s have a look at these animations.
